Design input collected from the first tests was integrated in a second iteration that took only a couple of hours to complete. By contrast, conventional metal tooling would have taken more than six weeks to design and procure, and the adjustments needed for the second iteration would have taken an in-house tool-shop a week to complete.

Robust and valid prototyping and verification are key to minimizing cost, time, and risk factors in developing medical devices, said SPI Vilecon. FIM is a new toolbox for medical device companies seeking to accelerate their innovation and obtain early verification of part performance and moldability, added the company.

Certified to ISO 13485, Denmark-based SPT Vilecon describes itself as a fully integrated provider of development and manufacturing services to the medical device industry. It offers in-house tool making and injection molding along with other manufacturing services to companies in northern Europe.

A supplier of development and manufacturing services to medical device OEMs used Freeform Injection Molding from Nexa3D to accelerate time-to-market and slash prototyping costs for a complex silicone-based IV device. SPT Vilecon explained the process in a recent press release.

On the date of Anderson’s sale, shares of Core Molding Technologies were trading at $18.04, according to Yahoo Finance. The company’s share price on Aug. 20 was $17.92, according to Seeking Alpha.

Numerous financial media outlets are reporting on an unusually large insider sale of shares by the executive vice president of human resources at Core Molding Technologies. Renee Anderson’s Form 4 filing on Aug. 19 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission revealed the sale of 25,000 shares, at a total transaction value of $451,060, according to Benzinga.

The patented FIM process uses high-speed Nexa3D printers and xMOLD resin to print injection molding tools that are compatible with thousands of off-the-shelf injection molding materials, including reinforced high-performance feedstocks. The process reduces design, iteration, and validation cycles using end-product materials to a matter of hours rather than weeks.

Insider sales might interest investors as they evaluate the stock’s valuation and consider the insider's ongoing ownership stake in relation to the company's current market performance and future outlook, notes Yahoo Finance. Insider sells may not necessarily signal a bearish stance on the stock and can be motivated by various factors, adds Benzinga.

During its Q2 earnings call earlier this month, Core Molding Technologies reported a 15.4% decline in sales for the first half of 2024, which Chief Financial Officer John Zimmer attributed to “economic headwinds, tough comparisons, and customer inventory rationalization.” He added that the company is “lowering sales guidance to the bottom of our full-year guidance, down approximately 15% compared to 2023 sales, due to continued softness in customer demand driven by macro-economic conditions.”

Over the past year, Anderson has sold a total of 59,963 shares and has not purchased any shares, reports Yahoo Finance. “This recent sale is part of a broader trend within the company, where there have been 24 insider sells and no insider buys over the past year,” it adds.

The executive vice president of human resources unloaded 25,000 shares this week, part of a broader trend of insider selling at the company over the past year.

Medical device manufacturers are tasked with developing elaborate test protocols to ensure that the product in development is safe and meets essential requirements. If these tests are conducted late in the development process, the more onerous and risky they become.
