The following is a bit more explanation on what Low Pressure Structural Foam Molding is. To start it is primarily a low pressure gas assisted plastic injection molding process. Low pressure plastic molding is primarily used to process a wide range of plastic materials like polyethylene (HDPE), in a low pressure structural foam machine. Instead of using the high pressures needed to force the molten polymer into a standard injection molding machine to fill up the cavity of the part mold, low pressure structural foam molding relies on the foaming caused by gas distributed into the plastic material during the injection process. Low Pressure Structural Foam Molding is almost always achieved when Nitrogen (or other gases, but most commonly nitrogen) are added to the plastic injection molding process to create a plastic that is much lighter in weight than your regular injection molded parts. Also low pressure structural foam molded parts are not only light weight but now much stronger than other typical custom plastic injection molded items. Low Pressure structural foam molded parts have notable weight reduction, sometimes as much as 40% drop in weight. Low pressure structural foam molded parts typically exhibit improved strength-to-weight ratios, improved thermal and acoustic insulation properties.
