Lamont was accompanied on his trip to Germany by Daniel O'Keefe, Commissioner, Department of Economic and Community Development, and Chief Innovation Officer, State of CT; John Bourdeaux, President and CEO, Advance CT; and Ted Fisher, Senior Director Business Development, Advance CT.

The delegation was welcomed by Vice President of Global Marketing Christoph Schumacher and met with Arburg managing directors Guido Frohnhaus and Gerhard Böhm and Advisory Board Chairman Armin Schmiedeberg. Topics addressed included Arburg’s vaunted apprenticeship program, the global economy, and the US presidential election. Connecticut’s assets as a business location were also part of the conversation.

Arburg founded its US subsidiary in Connecticut in 1990, and Lamont and his colleagues clearly feel they have a strong case to make as to why the state should be at the top of the site selection list if and when Arburg decides to launch production in North America.

The Informa Markets Engineering network of B2B media sites includes Design News, Battery Technology, Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry (MD+DI), Packaging Digest, PlasticsToday, and Powder & Bulk Solids.

The United States is Arburg’s largest market after Germany, with more than 14,000 Allrounder injection moulding machines installed. Until recently, the family-run company famously has resisted the trend to build manufacturing plants in proximity to customers outside its home country. The position became untenable, however, and Arburg announced earlier this year that it will begin manufacturing in China and is considering doing the same in North America.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont paid a visit recently to injection molding machine maker Arburg at its global headquarters in Lossburg, Germany. His stopover in the Black Forest for a lunch meeting, accompanied by a trio of state business development and inward investment executives, was part of a broader round of company visits in Germany, Arburg said in a press release. Arburg’s US headquarters is in Rocky Hill, CT.
