You can use the My Collection Day feature at www.somerset.gov.uk/waste to check your collection days online, download a printable calendar or, better still, add your dates to the calendar on your smart device or laptop.

PPIM will also expand its plastic injection molding press capacity 20% by the end of the year. In mid-August, the company is beginning a transition to all-electric injection molding presses, which deliver faster output with precision product quality.

Along with changes to collections, Somerset Council are asking residents to be “good eggs” this Easter and recycling as much as possible.

Pacific Plastics Injection Molding (PPIM), a division of Diversified Plastics, Inc. (DPI), has expanded its 24,000-sq. ft facility to 46,000 sq. ft. Together, the DPI facility in Minnesota and the PPIM facility in California now total 99,000 sq. ft. In addition to meeting rapidly increasing manufacturing demand, the larger space is part of a 3-year growth initiative.

Many of these plastics can be dropped off at supermarkets and some are taken in TerraCycle recycling schemes. Please check where you shop or have a look at the Council’s guide to supermarket and TerraCycle: www.somerset.gov.uk/plastics-what-can-you-recycle-where

As part of a 3-year growth initiative, a cleanroom will be added and ISO 13485 certification will be obtained at PPIM. This will broaden the company’s medical device manufacturing, assembling and packaging capabilities in a second location.

In 2019, PPIM expanded its manufacturing, assembly and office space by 5,000 sq. ft. The company also added plastic injection molding presses and an automation system. Since those additions, orders from new and existing customers have grown rapidly. This growth has caused a shortage of warehouse space for raw materials and inventory of bulky parts for weekly shipments.

“Although production has doubled, we did not have enough warehouse space,” says Rob Gilman, PPIM general manager. “As a short-term solution, we added cargo containers in the shipping bay and parking lot.”

Not yet recyclable at the kerbside or our recycling sites are chocolate bar and sweet wrappers, plastic bags and plastic-foil pouches, plastic ‘windows’ in boxes, and similar thin-soft plastic film.
